Week #5: Is there an Eruption on Natural Disasters?

Hey Scholars!!

This week's topic is on Geosphere and specifically Natural Disasters and Mineral Mining. My Question for Discussion this week is in the title of this Post. Do you think there is a coincidence between the recent decades Natural Disasters/ Weird Weather and Global Warming? Give your explanation and if you use others research/info. make sure you cite it (properly).

  1. i honestly believe that there is not a connection. unless there is a natural cycle for netuarl disasters just like there is for the slow warming and cooling of earths temperature. i believe that global warming is just science blown out of proportion and that the natural disasters are all just because of the tectonic plates and the currents and winds that come naturally. global warming has nothing at all to do with it.

  2. I do believe there is a connection simply because in the past few years, I've learned that everything on Earth is connected and things don't "just happen randomly." There is a reason, whether it be just a natural process or human interference. The higher temperatures on Earth could cause the rock cycle to increase in speed and make the soft mantle move a bit quicker, causing more tectonic activity that could led to earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis. It also could be the other way, and the certain way in which the plates are moving could cause higher temperatures and other changes, maybe even a drastic change somewhere far in the future (way beyond our lifetime).

  3. I dont think all of them are natural disasters. My reasoning is because as we grow our technology improves and were just able the determine more about weather, hurricanes, and tornados. We can now predict when it may happen and were it may happen. Techololgy has improved the way we see things. Also i havent really paided any attention to natural disasters until theh past year after hearing about the end of the world. I dont think our technology can predict something like that so far in advance. Global warming has effected the temp. of the earth and is harming the earths atmosphere.

  4. I think that it's not just a coincidence and that these things are related to each other. More than likely the increase in natural disasters and weird weather patterns is one of the results of global warming. I believe this because the Earth has a certain way of doing things and when we alter it by contributing to global warming other things get affected, such as the weather. When the weather gets disturbed and has irregular patterns, this is perceived as some of those natural disasters. It is like the domino effect. Everything is connected and when something gets affected other things eventually will be too.

  5. I believe everything is connected in some way. whether it be because of human development of a natural cycle. One thing triggers the next. For example, a tsunami is triggered by an earthquake in the ocean, that causes huge waves to form.

  6. I believe that it is not in our ability to Affect When and where Natural disasters occur, even if people may say otherwise because of what we humans do to the enviroment. I believe that when natural disasters occur next to High populated cities is only because It was an unlucky momment.

  7. I don't think we affect where, when, and how severe natural disasters are when they strike entirely, but i do think we contribute an influence. The past few decades the population has been at its highest, and we have a lot less resources than we did. Also, due to the large population, i think pollution is a bigger problem as well. Taking that into consideration, and also the fact that natural disasters have become more prevalent recently, i think the damages to Earth done by the population of the world affects Global Warming, and because of Global Warming, natural disasters are becoming more common than they were decades ago.

  8. I think that there is no coincidence or connection between natural disasters/ weird weather and global warming. I completely agree with the first comment that natural disasters happen because of plate techtonics. Also that global warming is science being comletely out of way.

  9. I believe that it is just a random occurance of many natural disasters. It is only coincidence that we have had so many in the recent decades. It is noone's power to make natural disasters happen when and where they want so it can only be coincidental.

  10. I think there is a coincidence. Some things go hand in hand like underwater earthquakes and tsunamis. There have been instances where a natural disaster affects the climate. Such as the eruption in the 1800s (can't think of the name of it) that caused the Year W/O Summer. Even nature has chain reactions

  11. I believe that there is a connection. When we destroy or alter earths cycle we are disrupting it causing it to try to alter to the changes. I believe that the strange weather could be a result of global warning and these strange natural disasters could be connected to global warning also. everything is connected some way weather is is the like weather changes or the natural disasters there connected like the domino effect.

  12. I think there might be a connection between global warming and natural disaster. Natural disaster can just happen but i think the global warming could be altering these natural disasters. We are releasing huge amounts of carbon dioxide which warm up the earth. It could possibly not only cause the temperature of the outer layer of the earth but also the inner layers which could cause stress and alter the movements of the layers.

  13. I don't think all of them are connected. Natural diasters are just that, natural. The weather has nothing to do with a tsunami forming, or an earthquake or hurricane. Us, as humans, cause wierd weather with all the gases we release into the earth, but only the earth can decide when to release natural disaters, if that makes any sense.

  14. Hmmmm....this is rather tricky because I am stuck in the middle. If I had to choose, I would have to say no.I say no because those things aren't in our control. We shouldn't try to take over the weather becuase it's a natural thing. We're not Mother Natures and we're not God, so why should we try to take over their jobs? Not trying to get too religious, but things happen for a reason and unfortunately, it's not in our hands and authority to want to change it. All we can do is work from it and hope.

  15. I do think there is a link between the weird weather and this so-called "global warming". It is a well-known fact that the earth is slowly heating up, partly because of the emissions humans release and the way they stay in the atmosphere. This will have a bigger effect on some types of natural disasters more than others. For example, it may cause more hurricanes because of the warmer waters in the Atlantic Ocean but will lower the number of blizzards because, well, if the earth is heating up and snow requires freezing temperatures.... Global warming will not have any effect on other natural disasters like earthquakes because they have nothing to do with the weather. And though I said I believe there is a link between humans and the gasses they release, I don't think this is a huge link and is not to blame for every little thing that happens (or doesn't happen). Sure we didn't have snow this year, but every place has an abnormally warm winter every once in a while.

  16. To be honest I believe that before there wasn't any connection between previous disasters and environmental changes, that was before humans started to make really big impacts on the natural environment. Many of the things that have been happening recently, really do make me wonder if everything we do in daily basis is affecting the earth. I believe that because we are producing so much problem throughout the whole ecosystem such as global warming, making the earth in a critical state to when it had originally started.
P.s. I was watching a scary movie, so I was a bit distracted and I feel that I was repeating myself thought the paragraphs. Sorry

  17. Yes i believe their is a coincidence with the natural disasters/ and the weather. Why? i think it's a trend because when one things happens something has to respond in what has taken in place. In some way they're connected.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't think that natural disasters and global warming are connected. The effects of global warming wouldn't be causing earthquakes or hurricanes. I think that global warming kind of has an effect on the weather, because it's heating up the earth and everything. Also, I'm pretty sure the weather doesn't cause natural disasters.

  19. My beleief is that there is no connection between the weather and the climate. Nature is one of those things in the world that we will never fully understand. When Mother Nature decides for something to happen we just have to hope and pray for the best results and wait it out. Things in this world happen for a reason and are not random and its not our responsibilty for that type of control.

  20. I feel that is just something that happens naturally. We can affect the temperature and cause some weird weather but nothing we do, in my oppinon, can cause these disasters that have been occuring lately. I feel these are just nature and we have no controll or real influence on what it does

  21. To a point I believe that we do affect the natural disasters that have occured over the past decade and the ones occuring today. Hurricanes for example need that warm water to fuel them. With global warming waters are warmer which can cause a higher chance for having more and stronger storms. I also believe however, that we are more aware now than we were in the past. Since we are more aware we see more which may make it seem like there is more actually happening. Personally I think that there are many people who have heard about global warming but have no idea what that means except that it is not a good thing and it has to do with the earth. Because there are so many people that do not know what it is they start connecting global warming to everthing they can such as the tsunami, earthquakes, and tornados. I dont think that all natural disasters are affected by global warming but there are a few that we may be encouraging to occur more with the way we are treating our planet.

  22. I do think there is a connection to the natural disaters and global warming. I don't think these things just happen on its own. Yes the earth's plates are always moving and shifting, but maybe global warming is increasing this causing these disaters. Such as the Tsunami and earthquakes.

  23. I honestly don't believe that the recent string of natural disasters are abnomnormal. I think 'eruptions of natural disasters' have happened before and it is nothing out of the ordinary. If you think about it, our knowledge of technology has been increasing greatly over the years which means we may be able to detect and record more natural disasters now than we were able to before. Think about it, hundreds of years ago, only the indians lived in the midwest and I'm pretty sure they weren't too concerned with keeping a record of all of the tornadoes that swept through.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I believe almost all of the natural disasters to a certain extent are connected. Hurricanes develop rapidly in warmer waters, in which or waters are getting warmer by global warming. Also when mining on sides of mountains or at slopes this could cause rock slides which could be considered as a natural disaster. I also think that tornado's could be greatly impacted by global warming because of the change in air and the way the air is mixing. An example of tornado happening more often in different places would be here last year. We do have them but certainly not to the extent of last year and I think this could be a sign of a climate change which could be impacted by us through global warming.

  25. I don't think natural diasasters and global warming are entirely connected. Sure maybe it causes a few of them (like rising ocean levels and flooding), but the rest are just nature in progress. Plates shift, ice melts, and volcanos errupt. It sucks but thats just nature.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I do think everything is connected in some way because it always seems like within a few decades or so things happen that are similiar to past tragedies. I've just always believed that everything is one big cycle and whatever has happened in the past is bound to happen in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  27. i believe there is a connection. in recent years man kind has been using up resources quicker. sending more harmful chemicals into the air. The positive feedback loop will eventually lead to the "end". THe natural disasters could be the results of our hand in the nutrient cycles in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  28. In my opinion there is no connection but then again there is. Natural disasters can come from natural causes which is really none of our control. Then again i ask myself, could there be a coincidence that we have had over 2 natural disasters happen last year within a few months. Weather can be rather unpredictable. Only connection i see, would be the effects of global warming depeending how bad it is. When you think about it,too much global warming could really result in the reason why we have so many natural disasters.
This is really a win/lose situation.

  29. I believe that there is a partial connection between some natural disasters and weird weather. I think global warming could warm snow covered mountains causing avalanches. Global warming could also cause alterations in weather patterns. It could melt more snow, putting more water water cycle to be used as precipitate

  30. I feel that natural disasters, weird weather, and global warming all related. I feel that they are related because they all are things that naturally occur within the cycles of the earth. Natural disasters such as volcanos, earthquakes, and tsunamis all occur because of the movement of techtonic plates which is not affected by humans. And the earth naturally over time goes through cycles of hot and cold. Humans do though add extra issues associated with all those things. Humans make impact with everything they do, but they do not create natural disaters nor global warming.

  31. I believe there could be a connection, but I think we don't know enough yet to make that assumption. I don't think we know enough about global warming and whether or not humans are really the cause of it. We could be the reason that it seems like there's more natural disasters now than before, but it could be that we are just more aware of natural disasters now, and because our technology is better we can detect them faster. Also, the population of the earth is greater so natural disasters affect many more people than they used to.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I do feel the natural disasters, wierd weather and global warming do some how some way relate these events are all connected but we dont have enough research to to know why like alx said. I do believe that the natural disasters are beeing created although by the technological advances in the human species and the way that we are growing. THe more technological advances are made them the more recoursces are used up and the more we grow as a population the more space we take up and the more we tend to to manipulate things that were set on this earth not to mess with.

    ReplyDelete
  33. personally, i feel that all the things that are going on now is not a coincidence. so yes, natural disasters, weird weather, and global warming all related. it is going on because of all the harm we have done to this planet over the years. even though we are aware of whats happening and what is going on, i feel that the pollution is increasing.

    ReplyDelete
  34. i think that these things just happen, we do somewhat affect some of the weather but id ont think its personally coincidence

    ReplyDelete
  35. i think that there is a connection between global warming and the natural disasters and weird weather. The earth already shifts and changes constantly and our impact on it is causing it to go out of whack. people dont understand what they are not supposed to mess with
