Week 7 Discussion: Recyclable Fashions that are Trendy

Hey Scholars,

This week we are getting ourselves ready from Homecoming the APES way. This is not another new ingenious idea created by Mr. Dillman though. People have been using recycled materials to make goods for awhile now. For this week find a new product that is made out of 100% recycled or recyclable materials and post the url to the picture of that product.

    Everyone has heard of Toms Shoes, the organization that when you buy a pair, they send a pair to a place where people need shoes. Their shoes are made from pesticide-free cotton canvas. They have vegan shoes that use completely recycled/recyclable and sustainable materials, a PU insole, and an outsole made from a blend of EVA and rubber.

    Also see Simple Shoes, because they use a wider variety of recycled/recyclable materials, like recycled carpet padding, bamboo, silk, plastics, organic cotton, car tires, certified leather/suede, coconut, wool, inner tubes, crepe rubber, 100% post-consumer recycled paper, cork, and of course hemp. I was just amazed at the variety.

    Elvis and Kresse make accessories, called Fire-Hose range. It's made completely of old British fire brigade hoses that were on their way to the landfill. 50% of the profits go to the Fire Fighters charity.

    100% recyclable flip flops called Maui Flip Flops by Okabashi. Their 30% recycled material and vegan friendly. They're dishwasher safe and when the flip flops are well-worn you can take'em back to Okabashi who will recycle them into new flip flops again. :D

    These contemporary bathtubs are made 100% made of recycled plastics and come in a wide variety of colors. This company also makes tables and sinks with the same materials.
