This is an interesting quote i found on the internet: "The least movement is of importance to all nature. The entire ocean is affected by a pebble." Blaise Pascal
The smallest things can have the biggest consequenses
This is a pretty lengthy quote, but I couldnt pick one part of it:
"To speak truly, few adult persons can see nature. Most persons do not see the sun. At least they have a very superficial seeing. The sun illuminates only the eye of the man, but shines into the eye and the heart of the child. The lover of nature is he whose inward and outward senses are still truly adjusted to each other; who has retained the spirit of infancy even into the era of manhood. His intercourse with heaven and earth, becomes part of his daily food. In the presence of nature, a wild delight runs through the man, in spite of real sorrows."- Ralph Waldo Emerson from Nature
I wonder how many people today can say that they have found the "wild delight" of nature. Its amazing to see how we tend to lose our joy of nature as we get older. We become so caught up in our inward affairs that we lose focus of the environment around us.
"Nature is just enough; but men and woman must comprehend and accept her suggestions." Antionette Brown Blackwell
I think its saying nature would be all we need but we have to make sure we do what we can to take care of it and appreciate it in order for it to work.
"The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature." Anne Frank
Because this is coming from a person who had been through so much during their life as Anne Frank, I believe it says alot about the power of nature. She is telling us that whenever we feel overwhelmed that we should let the "simple beauty of nature" relax us. Almost as if the beauty of nature is God's gift and medicine to mankind.
Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience. - Ralph Waldo Emerson
We as a people move so fast in life, too fast to completely grasp everything. If we allowed ourselves to slow down instead of anticipating the next event, we'd be able to truely understand our surroundings. I think many don't take time to stop and "smell the roses", causing them to miss out on something that could potentially be the best thing that COULD have ever happened to them.
Im not sure if this is how im supposed to comment back on someone else's quote but....
In response to Alex's quote "The least movement is of importance to all nature. The entire ocean is affected by a pebble"
I catch myself always referring to the domino effect. It is constantly happening around us whether we see it or not. Dropping a pebble into a pool of water wil send ripples throughout the ENTIRE pool, not just a part of it.

Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience. - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Man has been endowed with reason, with the power to create, so that he can add to what he's been given. But up to now he hasn't been a creator, only a destroyer. Forests keep disappearing, rivers dry up, wild life's become extinct, the climate's ruined and the land grows poorer and uglier every day. [Uncle Vanya, 1897] - Anton Chekhov
It just amazes me that we have been given the power and knowledge to create life in a tube and discover miracle cures, yet we deplete our resources thinking, oh it's okay they'll just grow back again. News flash they're not, and until we can learn to use control, there may be nothing left for us to save for future generations.
I can enjoy society in a room; but out of doors, nature is company enough for me. ~William Hazlitt
Sometimes we want the company of others but when you step outside and are given a moment to appreciate it, any company would just be intruding on the moment.
In response to Veronica Hopkins:
Your quote and mine are similar because they both deal with solitude. Both of the authors seem to agree that a person can only envelope themselves in nature, and therefore be happy, if they don't have the distractions of other people around all the time.
The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God.
Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles. - Anne Frank
I know this quote is true for myself. On a bad day, all I have to do is go for a walk, observing and pondering all the environmental intricacies and phenomena that occour every single day. It's great for keeping things in perspective: Nature has taught me everything has a time and a place, and there's no reason to be overly stressed over things that are beyond your control. By comparison, my problems just don't seem as significant anymore.
This brings makes me think of John's quote; I've noticed that his quote is completely true. As people grow older, often times it seems that they begin to die inside long before they are actually deceased. People become too absorbed in selfish ambitions to find the simple joy that comes from living: this joy is lost.
I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour, if we will only tune in. ~George Washington Carver
IN RESPONSE TO AUSTIN WOOD in the future, that could be a possibility.
Everything that we touch we end up destroying becuase we dont know how to take a little here and there. we always take to much at one time and we never stop taking from nature. we are gluttons of everything that is good and in the end we loose what we need to sustain ourselves.
"I still get wildly enthusiastic about little things...I play with leaves. I skip down the street and run against the wind."
Leo Buscaglia
I like this quote, it reminds me of myself. I find happiness in the smallest packages and they dont have to come from a store. Im still a little kid at heart, I admit it. Every Autumn I still rake the leaves into a huge pile and jump in them all day! (: Sometimes when im running, I pretend like im racing the wind. This quote takes me back to when I was a little kid who played outside all day long: playing in the mud, making forts in the woods, running through the fields, finding bugs under rocks, staying outside until mom called me in for dinner. I didnt notice till now that nature was my best friend. -Lindsey Wynne
"In the depth of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer. Albert Camus"
I didn't have to look much farther than my bedroom for this quote. Being one of my favorite quotes of all time, I have given this quote as much thought as this quote as given me inspiration. I think this quote is referring to all the difficult situations or adversities we have all faced throughout our lives, and will continue to face as we grow older. But instead of becoming consumed by these harsh times and letting them bring you down, you have to realize that there is always tomorrow. There is always something, whether it be a for your son, or boyfriend, or friends, worth living for; there is always something worth moving on for; there is always something that will bring you out of that tough time, and make you remember what makes life so great.
In response to Kelsey's quote "I can enjoy society in a room; but out of doors, nature is company enough for me. ~William Hazlitt". I believe this quote says a lot about a person. I, personally, am a social being; I love being around people and I love the company they provide. But, occasionally, it is necessary to truly step back from society and simply go outside and enjoy the nature God has provided for us. There is something about going outside, laying in the grass, being with nature, and simply pondering life and all it possible holds for you that is truly therapeutic and inspiring in itself.
I totally agree with your quote. Nature has a way of allowing us to get away from all of the noise in our society and focus on what is important: the well being of ourselves and others. I think that so many times we become caught up in our "hectic" schedules, that we forget the true value of life.
"Some day, after we have mastered the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity we shall harness the energies of love. Then, for the second time in the history of the world man will have discovered fire."
Personally I believe this quote refers too the different aspects of nature to explain too us that we won't be able too harness and control any of these things so...trying to be able to control love is pointless because we probably will not be able to control any characteristic of nature. However if we are able to control love then (in reference to fire) it would be like discovering fire again because love is a serious thing, and playing with love is like playing with fire...in the end someone is succeptable to getting hurt.
I agree with Alex Pens...quote. As a society we're always trying to take more than needed no matter what the substance or object is. In the end our demise won't be due to anything besides the hands of man.
In response to Chantel's quote, I absolutely agree. Many people miss out on the simple beauty of the things around us. We often are so wrapped up in our own, self created lives that we rarely stop to notice the things that happen on their own.
i agree with that because we are always using our resources and thinking that well theres enough and we dont think about responsibly managing how much resources of ours we really use and one day its going to be too late to realize because we arent going to have any left.
"Human nature is just about the only nature some people experience." ~Abigail Charleson
I feel that this quote is very true for society today. Most people do not take the time to appreciate the world around them. They are just to busy taking all of it's precious resources.

"Because we don't think about future generations, they will never forget us." ~Henrik Tikkanen
I agree with this quote a 100 percent. Today's society has become so self-indulgent we don't realize the detrimental impact we're causing on our environment. We as American's are one of the leading polluters in the world. With each passing day we are making it harder and harder for future generations, and ourselves, to live on earth.
In respones to Austin Wood, I feel as though that the quote completely describes what we as humans are doing to nature now. We are killing the world around us with just the touch of our hands. If we did have the ability to distroy our atmosphere we just might.
It has always been to me, the ocean, overwhelming, monstrous, deep, dark, green and black, so foreign that requires respect, silence, humility. All of the life in it is menacing, compelling, exquisite, with nothing consoling. --Andrea Dworkin
I sort of agree with this quote. I believe it means that in pertaining to nature, we as people look upon the known natural world with a an amused gaze. but yet, when we look at the unknown like looking at the ocean from the surface, trying to see the bottom, We still cannot fathom the extent of what nature is to us, for look at us now: we cannot be consoled due to our heavy footprints we have left in the earth. though, everyone will make an impact on the earth no matter how hard we try not to. we are scared to what might happen to our resources when they vanish. we don’t know what the future will hold. I believe the problem is that there is too much human apathy. do we look at an iPod, let's say, and think hmmm how many resources did it take to make this? or the fact that people litter and think hmmm someone will clean this up eventually. bottom line--I think that nature is what this quite stands for, even though it is quite hard to understand at first.
In response to Kelsey's quote "I can enjoy society in a room; but out of doors, nature is company enough for me. ~William Hazlitt". In response to austin wood's quote, i totally agree with it. I feel like we, humans, keep taking every single thing within our grasp from nature. we take and take until there's just nothing left. isn't that the main reason why hundreds of thousands of trees are getting cut all over the world? as long as there's something in nature that we can use in some way, we will find a way to take it. we're too selfish to care about just leaving half of the things that we take to nature itself.
