A solar shower!
It uses the sun to heat water and save energy.
http://www.buyenergyefficient.org/solarshower5gallon189liters.aspx
I think this product would work well here, because of the hot summers. Personally i don't know if i would actually use it.
The product I researched is called Cyber-Rain.
ReplyDeleteThe Cyber-Rain is a weather-based sprinkler controller that automatically adjusts lawn watering levels. The Cyber-Rain also saves water and reduces water bills.

Solar Charger for iPod, cellphones and Blackberry
It takes about 3-4 hours of sun to charge and it can work in partially cloudy weather (takes longer). There are still some kinks to work out; such as the chargers inability to charge 60GB ipods.

http://ecoki.com/new-eco-friendly-sprint-phone/
ReplyDeleteThis was really interesting. It's an eco-friendly cell phone from Sprint. It's called the Samsung Reclaim. It's derived mostly from corn and manufactured with 80% recyclable materials. The outside packaging is 70% recycled materials and the paper products such as the warranty and instructions are made with soy-based inks. It's relatively cheap and comes in two cool colors, ocean blue or earth green. Plus they donate 2% of the proceeds to the Nature Conservancy's Adopt an Acre program. I would definitely use this phone.

ReplyDeleteThe product I found was an energy efficient air conditioner. It was really interesting because it uses evaporative power to reduce energy usage and even redues the need to drain condensate from the unit.

There is a new toaster that has an auto-close system which prevents most of the heat from escaping the toaster, keeping the heat closer to the bread. This allows toast to be made faster and it claims to use 34% less energy than a traditional toaster. Of course, its black, so people who would like to match their small kitchen appliances to their new stainless steel appliances won't be too keen on that.

This is pretty interesting: A solar rechargeable latern/ weather radio. It's durable, and reliable. I think it'd be great for Camping and Boating, because you don't have to worry about batteries or anything, like you would with other similar devices.

NATURAL LIGHT TUBULAR SKYLIGHTS! :)
This is a highly innovative and energy efficient lighting system. It allows natural sunlight to enter a room through a highly reflective light pipe and is engineered to be weather-tight and leak-proof. It is said to have better features than traditional skylights, not to mention less expensive.

The energy efficient product I found was through this article about the HGTV Dream Home 2010 using the Rinnai Corporation's tankless gas heaters: http://www.foxbusiness.com/story/markets/industries/industrials/rinnai-products-featured-hgtv-dream-home/
ReplyDeleteThe catch of tankless gas hearts are that they're guaranteed to run continuous hot water (heating water is accounted for 30% of the average home's energy budget). Consumer report said it's not necessarily time to switch as the products aren't exactly saving you THAT much, however they are a step in an energy efficient direction and I bet in the future most water heating companies will move in this direction.

The product I found was a backpack with built-in solar panels that can be used to charge electronics like cell phones, ipods, GPS systems and such. The backpack's solar panels use direct sunlight to build up solar power to be used instantly, or stored in a battery pack to use when the sun isn't shining.

The product I found was a Evaporative AC. It sounded pretty cool because I have never ever heard of an Evaporative Air Conditioning before.

Green concrete

A Canadian startup has developed a small prototype wind turbine that uses friction instead of a gearbox to convert wind energy into electricity. CWind, based in Owen Sound, Ontario, recently began work on a larger two-megawatt prototype. The company claims that its "friction drive" system is more efficient and reliable--and less costly to maintain--than conventional wind turbines, which are prone to expensive gearbox failures.

I researched a device that would replace the thrmostat in the home. It is called the WATTBOX. It observes all of the ebergy you use in your home and what times you take a shower and how much hot water to use and it moderates energy use. If you are unhappy with its moderation then you can change the temperature oe whatever and it has a screen that shows how much energy will be used because of that change so you realy see how you affect the use of energy.

The NitroCream liquid ice cream and gelato maker is a hand crafted and eco-friendly machine. It doesn't use refrigerants, compressors or condensers so this makes it an ecologically friendly product. It also reduces energy consumption by only running when making the ice cream. The combination of the products design and its energy efficient benefits makes the NitroCream a revolutionary product on the market.

The smart thermostat is a invention that comunitates to a lot of your home appliances and turns them on and off using your ipone. So instead of you leaving your lights on when you leave then going all the way back home to turn them off you can just turn them off from your ipone.
