Week 4: What's with this Weather?

Hey Scholars!

Hopefully you enjoyed the snow! Weather is a funny thing..... always changing.
For this weeks post I want you to find a weather map from a different country post it and explain what the symbols mean and what kind of weather they are having. Then tell us what biome the country mostly fits into because of where it is located (latitude and longitude).

Let It Snow!

  1. For this weeks blog, I did a weather map of austraila's different zones. Austraila's zones are hot and humid, warm and humid, hot and dry with warm winter, warm and dry with warm winter, temperate, and cool temperate. These biomes provide a wide range of species but these species mostly would be used to warm and humid or dry weather. Vegetation would have to store water for a long period of time.

    JAPAN

    Japan is surrounded by both the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan and is nicely situated off the eastern coast of Asia. Japan experiences the four seasons of summer, autumn, winter, and spring/monsoon weather. Currently the average temperature is 39 degrees. Winters in Japan are very brisk and icy while the summers are hot. Japan receives a great amount of precipitation each year. Thus, it fits in well with the Deciduous Forest biome. If you were to travel to Japan you would find broad leafed deciduous trees. Ash, oak, and beech trees are commonly found as well as some trees that belong to the evergreen family. The superfluous amount of rainfall in which Japan receives, accounts for its very fertile soil. This makes for a great agricultural foundation for Japan. In accordance with moderate climates and heavy precipitation, various animals and plants can call Japan their home. Animals such as salamanders, frogs, robins, and deer live within and throughout this biome.

    I choose Canada! Canada is a mix of four biomes,
    -temperate deciduous forest on the west
    -temperate grassland in middle area
    -high mountains in the western middle
    -Arctic Tundra(cold grassland) north

    most people thing Canada is cold all year, but its actually not. The south-western coast have a relatively mild climate
    Canada is in the Northern Hemisphere, the latitudes are relatively high, explaining the Tundra climate.

    Link the the map

    yellow sun=sunny
    grey clouds=cloudy, overcast
    grey clouds with snow flakes= snow
    grey clouds with lines under=rain
    *numbers under the signs indicate the temp.

    I beleive that Canada would be in the Tundra due to the temperatures and laditude. The weather map is pretty self explanitory.

  5. India:
    http://www.imdpune.gov.in/weather_forecasting/plot/plots_index.html

    I found a weather map that showed the weekly rainfall for India. The areas in are divided into colors to represent the amount of water each area of India received. For example areas in blue represent areas with excessive water and areas in Gray represent no rain.

    Overall for this week India has received 24.12mm to 30.12mm (If I interpreted that number right-no indication). According to http://ces.iisc.ernet.in/hpg/cesmg/indiabio.html#Geography and Major Biomes, India contains tropical rain forest as well as grass lands. India is very mountainous; so it contains a diverse ecosystem.

    India is "strechced from 8 4' to 37 6' N latitude and from 68 7' to 97 25' E longitude" So India is close to warm waters in its lower half and colder winds in the north.

    I chose the Bahamas!!!
    -Today, the weather is mostly cloudy
    - you can find a great number of biomes in the Bahamas, but the most common is a grassland biome.
    -here is the link to the website I used:
    http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/78073.html

    - AND here are what all those icons mean:
    yellow sun=sunny
    yellow sun with clouds= either partly or mostly cloudy
    grey clouds=cloudy, overcast
    grey clouds with lines under=rain
    grey clouds with lightning= electrical storm
    the temperature is listed underneath the icon.

    I found a weather map of brazil.

    On this map it shows areas that are daytime, nighttime, rainy, and cloudy. Also it is showing areas of high and low pressure with countour lines. Also the main biome in brazil based on the latitudes are a tropical forest.

    This map of Mexico is interesting because it shows you what areas of the country are experiencing day and what areas are experiencing night. You can choose for the map to display either the areas of pressure, wind, and freezing.

    Most of the country is having a cloudy night. The biome most of Mexico fits into is desert and then desert-scrub. A portion of the country fits into the alpine biome because of high altitudes.

  10. China

    The weather in China varies depending on the altitude. In the more mountainous areas, the weather seems to be more sunny and slightly warmer, whereas in the lower altitudes it is cloudy with some chances of rain.
    The symbols used on my map are vary similar to the ones used on our very own weather channel: clouds stands for cloudy day, rains represents rain, and sun represents sun. But, this map includes the altitudes and you can change the picture of the map to find out the swells if you are a surfer.
    Here is the link to the map:
    http://www.weather-forecast.com/maps/China

    In relationship to the biomes,China is like many other countries. Depending on the latitude and longitude of where you are located, you can find anywhere from deciduous forest and grasslands to desert as you travel upward. Eastern China is mainly a deciduous biome, with some woodland and carnivorous forests mixed in. As you travel to Northern China, you reach more savannas and grasslands and possibly deserts. As you move up in altitude, the rain shadow comes into affect and creates more of these dry, hot areas.

    I did my weather map on england

    http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/weather/maps/forecastmaps?LANG=en&UP=0&R=0&MORE=0&DAY=0&MAPS=over&CONT=ukuk&LAND=___&TOFD=tag

    there are many symbols that represent differnt weather patterns

    sun= sunny
    rain cloud= rain
    cloud with snow = snow
    white cloud= cloudy

    At this moment England is experienceing snow, sunny skys, and rain depending on where you are in the country.
    Great Britain is at a latitude where one would expect taiga to predominate instead of temperate forest if it weren't for the effect of the Atlantic Conveyor, an extension of the Gulf Stream.

  12. I chose to do the country of Lithuania in Europe.
    Today in Lithuania it is chilly, with a mix of rain in some places and snow in the areas of higher altitudes.

    Here's the map: http://www.weather-forecast.com/maps/Lithuania (Lithuania is the darker green country)

    The dark clouds with the white dots indicate snow, the dark clouds with the blue dots indicate rain, the white clouds indicate plain cloudy skies and the white clouds with blue dots indicate a chance of rain.

    Lithuania is in a mostly boreal and temperate biome with a variety of mixed forests. Lithuania contains over 3,000 lakes and rivers and over 99 kilometers of sandy coastline.

    SPAIN :)

    http://www.weather-forecast.com/maps/Spain

    ^^^this website shows the weather map of spain.
    sun - clear, sunny day
    white clouds with sun - partly cloudy
    white clouds - clear
    gray clouds - cloudy day
    gray clouds with blue droplets - rain

    This week, Spain is going to experience a lot of rain and cloudy days. Not much of the sun, unfrtunately. Although it is the country with the warmest temperature in Europe.

    Spain is, located in the latitude and longitude of 40°00N and 4°00W respectively. The latitude and longitude denominations of Spain make it lie on the southwestern side of the continent of Europe. Because of this, Spain's biome is Chapparal/Medditeranean.

    Sun= sunny
    sun+clouds=partially cloudy

  15. I did my weather thing on Okinawa, Japan, but I chose to narrow it down to Naha City--I used to live around.
    http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/47930.html
    Since it is a very humid place, the rain is very haphorizadly. But for today's forecast so far it is scattered clouds at 64 degrees fareinheight.

    hmmmm. the little golden yellow key looking things dictate in which direction the is going. At the end of each key, or teeth, it tells how fast the wind is going in knots. inside of the key, however in the circular portion or the base, is thetemperature. well i found the stuff and legens
    sun=sunny
    light gray clouds=cloudy
    dark gray clouds= cloudy w/ rain
    but sometimes it rains w/o clouds present.

    Okinawa, Jp is mostly a tropical biome, but due to the war about seventy years ago, a bunch of the trees were cut down.

  17. The Philippines:
    Currently in the Philippines, it's sunny all over with partial clouds.

    Sun=Sunny
    Cloud=Cloudy
    temperature, well, that's universal.

    http://weather.msn.com/region.aspx?wealocations=philippines

    It also keeps an updated temperature of all major cities. The biome of the Philippines is most likely an evergreen tropical rainforest, as the receive a lot of precipitation and underwent horrible typhoons on top of a lot of yearly rainfall. However, I was reading an article by the New York Times saying they're bracing for the worst drought perhaps ever to affect their country. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/20/world/asia/20phils.html

  19. Philippines

    sun w/small cloud - sunny w/ few clouds
    cloud w/rain - raining
    dark cloud w/ lightening - lightening storm

    Because the Philippines is close to the equator, its climate is a tropical marine. Basically this means its normally hot there all year round, consisting of a rainy season and a dry season.

  20. Madagascar

    The climate is dominated by the southeastern trade winds. Madagascar has two seasons: a hot, rainy season from November to April; and a cooler, dry season from May to October. Coastal areas are warm, humid and tropical, while the south is almost always dry. It generally rains only at night or in the morning
