Week 2: New Energy Efficient Products

Hey Scholars,

Hopefully you enjoyed your first experiences in AP Env. Science. Looks like most of you are gettin the hang of this whole Blogging thing. This week's topic is Energy Resources. Your Challenge this week is to research and find online one new innovative product on the market now or soon to be on the market. This product's main focus must be on energy efficiency. Post the link (url) so we can all check out the Goods! Oh yeah and please write your name and class period. Some of you I CANNOT tell by your crazy usernames.... Don't forget about your plan to lower your ecological footprint. Keep Up With It!

  5. The average American famiy washes about 400 loads of clothes per year. But you can cut down a third of the cost by using an ENERGY STAR washer. And half of that is water. The link is http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?fuseaction=find_a_product.showProductGroup&pgw_code=CW

If every American home replaced just one light with a light that's earned the ENERGY STAR, we would save enough energy to light 3 million homes for a year, save about $600 million in annual energy costs, and prevent 9 billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions per year, equivalent to those from about 800,000 cars.

Compact Florescent Lights (CFL) use 75% less energy and last 10 times as long as regular light bulbs

I found this while i was searching for a senior project to do. I'm fairly certain that the laws of physics prevent this from occuring and the whole thing is a scam BUT wouldn't it be nice if it really worked? Hows THAT for energy efficiency!

This dishwater is the first to select a different type of wash for the top and bottom rack. It uses less than 1/3 of the water that normal dish washers use.

And I just noticed that this is under the website that Danielle posted, but I found this before I read hers so not copyright!

This is a great energy efficient water heater. It is a tankless water heater which takes up a lot less space. Also tankless water heaters heats water only at the time it is being used, instead of storing pre-heated water in a water tank. Reducing wasted energy on reheating the same water multiple times.

If more big buildings could be efficient, there would be less energy used. it can reduce energy costs by 5%. wut it is, is a coating for windows that when used with regular clear glass windows, it absorbs solar power.

  34. Unlike air cooled units, which lose in the range of 25 percent of their rated efficiency at temperatures exceeding 100° F relative to their SEER rating, the efficiency of an evaporative water cooled unit has a minimal drop.
In the past, evaporative cooled condenser units were used only in commercial applications. Now one manufacturer has a model that is designed specifically for the residential market.
Water removes heat from the condenser coils far more efficiently than air. The heat transfer and evaporative process is increased via a fan on top of the condenser.

Up to 15% of your electric bills come from items that are left plugged in when they are not in use, or items that are in standby mode. You can reduce this ‘phantom load’. With this 10 outlet Smart Strip Power Strip, the outlets work together, switching your devices on and off automatically while saving you money on your electric bills.
