Even though this website is from 2008, I think this fuel source is very creative. A company called Frybrid created a system to convert vegetable oil into fuel for diesel-powered automobiles.

Waste Gastification is a process that turns waste into a fuel source. First the waste is seperated from any metals. Then the waste is placed into a chamber where it is heated to 700 C. This creates a mixture of different gases. These gases are again heated but this time they are heated by a plasma torch at 1200 C. The torch seperates the gases into simple gases like carbon monoxide, hydrogen, and mercury. After the mercury and steam are removed from the chambers the simple gases are moved to a combustion engine generator to create energy.
