This website sells eco-friendly natural organic pesticides. Their pesticides use plant oils, which are chemically similar to octopamine (insects' adrenaline), which when given to insects, makes them burn themselves out pretty much. The octopamine doesn't affect mammals, fish, or birds, so it's safe for the other animals both domesticated and wild.

Oh Mr. Dillman, we'll all miss you too!
ReplyDelete.......such a fast semester......
A company called EcoSMART, sells botanical pesticides that are as effective as any other pesticide. However, EcoSMART uses a combination of the natural defenses found in botany. The pesticides made by EcoSMART are safe to be used both indoors and outdoors. The pesticides have been around for several years now. However, I have never heard of them, one because I don't really look into different pesticides and two because, prior to this class, I haven't really cared about going green at all.

I found a pesticide that is made out of natural plant and tree oils. It is also has been proven to be the safest and most effective. It kills ants, cockroaches, dust mites, flies, wasps, hornets and other pests. It also controls insects that damage crops. It doesn't mention if the pesticide harms beneficial insects though.

ReplyDeleteThere are oil-based botanical products (Mostly from cotton-seed) that are considered eco-friendly. They suffocate the insects and their eggs, but can still irritate human skin, eyes, gastrointestinal tract, and so forth.
One of the biggest pros that I found was that insects cannot build up a resistance to these oil-based botanical products.

Spice Based Pesticides:
ReplyDeleterosemary, thyme, clove, and mint are being used for fruit pesticide. The natural pesticides have several advantages. Unlike conventional pesticides, these "killer spices" do not require extensive regulatory approval and are readily available. An additional advantage is that insects are less likely to evolve resistance — the ability to shrug off once-effective toxins — Isman says. They're also safer for farm workers, who are at high risk for pesticide exposure, he notes.

chalk
ReplyDeleteDraw a line around the areas you dont want ants coming to. you can even draw a linea round the whole house! It’s not entirely clear, but some say the ants don’t like the particles sticking to their feet, while others say they’re averse to the calcium carbonate in the chalk. Whatever the reason, this nontoxic solution will keep ants outside where they belong.
