  1. My favorite assignment from this semester was probably the eco-friendly fashion show. Although the assignment was a bit complicated, and did not go as well as we planned, the fashion show was still interesting. There isn't much that I didn't like about the class. The only real suggestion or criticism I have would be to do more with the snakes during the herp survey (like what we saw in the Dirty Jobs episode)

  2. This was a good class. I especially liked the HERPS survey. And the graham cracker lab, because we got to eat. There wasn't really anything I didn't like about this class. It was pretty cool, and I enjoyed taking it. I also liked the T-shirt and board game projects. And, the best one of all: recycle fashion week. That was a really cool project. I've never done anything like it before.

I think my most memorable moment in this class was either the trash prom dresses or building the wind mill(: They were very fun projects and it was surprising what was come up with!

The one thing I didnt like about the class was when we took notes; how fast you went on to another slide. I never really got all of the information down and that was kinda frustrating sometimes.
I did like the labs though; it made the course really interesting and fun!

For me, there are three moments I will never forget in your class. The first is when we find those ringneck snakes and I got to hold them, that was one of the most awesome things I have ever done at school. The second is when you played the guitar for us, seriously why aren't you famous by now. And last the most recent and most memorable moment is when you looked and me and said you killed my frog. It wasn't exactly a good moment, but it's one I'll never forget. Really, the only thing about your class I would change is where you get those notes. They hardly help and sometime have little to do with what is on the quizzes and exams. Other than that, though, your class was awesome.

  5. My most memorable moment in your class would definately be when you played the guitar. I did not like the sad pictures of all the hurt animals in your powerpoint/book. The only thing I wish could've changed would've been more time doing the bookwork because the questions were long, but you ended up giving us more time. Overall, I loved the class!

  6. My most memorable moments in this class would be learning about all the environmental issues in the world. In this class, I enjoyed the interactive activities and experiments that we did.

  7. Out of everything that has happened in class it is the labs that stand out the most. Going outside to study snakes, making recyable dresses, and making fans all stand out in my mind. I think that the class was extremely cool in the fact that you seemed to mix it up a lot and that we learned our lessons in interesting ways. I thought that the lessons and the projects we did were all extremly innovative and I could see a lot of thought was put into each lesson. However, if I could change one thing it would probably be how chanllenging the class was. I felt that the class could be a little harder especially those who needed to know all the material for the AP test. Overall, I did enjoy my time in the class.

  8. i have had many memorable moments in ap env science. one of them is when mr dillman asked hallie where her jeans attacked by a lawn mower. Another memorable moment is when mr dillman gave a speech about cheating and commented that it was not the actions of a scholarly scholar.

I believe the only thing that needs any change or thought on is the quiz schedule. ( expressively the time where we have a quiz on the same days we just learned new material)

There were various other moments that i enjoyed in mr dillmans class. one of them was watching the "dillman vs wild" video in class.another memorable moment was when mr dillman had us complete our funnel lab even though my group could not find any organisms.
but i think my most memorable moments were the times in class the dylan evans would start talking about central michigans football team.

  10. My most memorable moment was when we went to get a soil sample and Tyler go in trouble for peeing in the woods.

The way you did notes was so fast and there was so much information I was never able to get everything down. So I just gave up on taking notes.

My most memorable moments were spent outside the classroom collecting data for our herps lab. In school i spend most of my day in a classroom. It was a nice surprise and relaxing when we were able to go outside while we looked for organisms. I also enjoyed the in class experiments we did. They really helped me understand the lessons that were being taught. But, i think as an environmental science class and especially as an AP one, we should have gone outside more for hands-on lessons or experiments.

  12. I'd have to say my favorite moments were the recyclable dress thing and the goldfish lab. And when you sang us that song. The only advice I have is actually make the recyclable thing a grade PLUS the incentive for extra credit.

  13. My favorite moment of the class was beating hoggard.....TWICE.
    Pros
    -Labs
-moved around a lot and stuff
    Cons
    -Book work
-Took a quiz like every other day

  14. My favorite part of this class was when you sang your song to usss.
My least favorite part of this class was taking notes because you went really fast and I couldn't keep up.
but overall i really liked this class and wish i could take it again.

  15. Another one of my favorite parts of this class was the graham cracker lab cause we got to eat the icing and the fashion week dress show because that was really cool getting to see everybodies unique ideas.
My least favorite part was the quizzes because they were really hard for me but I think that ties back to the notes being hard to follow.
But once again i loved this class and it was one of my favorite this semester!

  16. My most memorable moments in the class were all of the hands on projects. The recycled material dresses, the outside herp survey stuff, making the windmills.

The pros were doing alot of hands on work, not using the book that much, and detailed powerpoints for notes. Also all of the extra credit opportunities. And the assigned group work.

The cons were not using the book, because I might have learned more with it, and having so many quizzes.

    ReplyDelete
  17. My favorite part of the class was doing all the hands on labs like when we learned about plate tectonics with crackers and icing. My least favorite part about the class was not being to concentrate during a test or quiz.

  18. My favorite part of this class was definatly the herp lab. It was interesting being able to see species on our own school campus that I didn't even know was there. I can't really think of a downside to this class, I really enjoyed it

  19. Last post was from Tyler Anastasia, the one about herp.

  20. I honestly believe this is my favorite class. I love how we were always learing hands on style. I have two memorable memories along with so many more. 1st when we went to collect leaf litter, Yahira's face was priceless when i asked her to hold the bag while i picked up the leaves. Another moment is when we found the little ringneck snakes and i was able to hold one (ill never forget the awful scent).

Pros: The hands on activities ~the ten question quizzes after a chapter ~Wright's review ~lack of lab reports
Cons: The inability to continue the herp survey in the fall (should find a slightly different study for fall students) ~the super fast notes was kind of annoying when we were actually trying to write ~The lack of books.I understand that was out of your control but its tough to finish the review questions in the 30 mins you give us, i actually dont mind homework, as long as it can finished and i can learn

  21. I really liked this class. It was a laid back class that you learned valuable information that will help you in life and make you have second thoughts about. This class is similar to a college class because it was on your own kind of things. I will remember the days we had to go out for the HERPS survey, the windmill competition, and the dress run way. I honestly wouldnt change anything about this class. This class will be amongst the classes i will remember when i graduate. I will come back and visit.

  22. My favorite moment was the fashion show project, but pretty much all the labs and activities were fun. I did wish the scheduling and timing for the herp surveys were better though.

  23. I think my most memorable moment was when the entire class had a very very VERY bad day, yet you managed to cheer us up by taking us outside and making us act like crabs. :) My favorite lesson though was the tragedy of the commons goldfish lab, I'll never forget it! Your class was always a lot of fun, and there was rarely a dull moment.
The only cons I can think of are the lack of books. Since we didn't have books, I felt like instead of answering the questions at the end of the chapter, we could have just read the chapter and then discussed the questions. It would have saved a lot of time and helped me on the quizes more. (Maybe next time a certain someone should return the plasma screens. ;) )

Most memorable would be....the first group activity we did, our first time going outside to check the sites for snakes.
This course was fun..i at least had fun and learned more about the troubles going on in the world

  25. My most memorable moment was when Tyler got caught outside going pee. I really enjoyed the class and thought it had some of the most creative and fun labs. If I could change something about the class it would be the speed of the seminars. It was hard to follow along and take notes at the same time. Thanks for a wonderful semester.

  26. My most memorable moment in the class was stomping out the competition in the recyclable dress project, special thanks to our beautiful model: Paige. I had a stupendous time and look forward to the senior backpacking trip.

being my seond year in your class it was even more enjoyable. it felt like both years blended together. my most memorable moment in this class would have to be the coyote project. although it was confusing i had a ton of fun making the commercial for the project, and my family got a kick out of it to. there is not much to change about your class except for the notes. like others said most of the time the notes seem to be unrelated to the quizzes and tests and you go so fast through them that half the time i didnt get the info, which was frustrating considering i couldnt go home every day and review in a book. other than that the class was awesome. i love how we got to do something hands-on atleast twice a weak

    ReplyDelete
  28. My most memorable moments from this class would have to be the debate we had on energy resources and also the lab on the introduction of coyotes into our central park.

It would have been nice if when you did notes you went a little bit slower but its been good practice for college to take fast pace notes.

Overall I really enjoyed this class and feel like I have become so much more aware pressing issues in the enviroment and how we can fix them!

  29. my favorite memory from this semester would have to be the herp survey. it was really interesting being able to go outside and look for snakes. if there was something i would change about the class then it would have to be having a book assigned to each student. it was kinda hard to study for quizzes when we only had notes.

  30. Mr. Dillman!

So, the first time i tried leaving a comment on here it didn't work which sucks because I had a really good comment! But....that's the beauty of the internet I suppose, you can go back and do it over again. This is a make-up blog so I will post two of my favorite assignments and two things that you can improve on next time.
My favorite two assignments were the dress we made out of recycled material and the community fish lab. They were alot of fun and I really enjoyed them as did the rest of the class I'm sure. The only thing I would change is make more things grades rather than just extra credit so that everyone gets some sort of credit for their work. Also, I would slow down a little in your powerpoints. You go a little fast when going through them so no one really has time to take notes as far as I know of. Oh, and GOING OUTSIDE MORE FOR THE HERPS SURVEY. We hardly ever went out and I feel like the data in our lab report would be more accurate if we went out more.

Working the whole week on a fashion show that we won

    Pro: Labs
    Con: Too many quizes

  32. I enjoyed your class a lot and your a very easygoing teacher, my favorite thing we did was probably the trash dress. I also liked that we went outside a lot, and that this class was a lot more hands on than other classes I'm in. It made it very fun yet I learned a lot. As far as cons go, more study group times would have been beneficial because you seem to find a lot of joy in giving an extensive amount of quizzes. Also more cumulative test prep, cause they are so dang hard

Overall this class has been fAb-o-licious
    peace out dills

  33. Mr. Dillman,
Oh the fun times we have had together in your class. I am not going to lie I will miss your class, not only because you are the coolest teacher ever but because I probably learned the most in your class then every other class even though you probably thought I wasn't listening (But you were wrong, I was..even though sometimes my grades didn't reflect it). There were a lof of memorable moments in your class and I would try to list them all but that would take a very long time so I will list a few.
    1. When you would always yell at Hallie for talking even though it was ususally me that was talking.
    2. Hallie and I proving you wrong by creating the fastest fan/windmill thing in the class. Which you have yet to post our picture!
    3. Hallie and I blowing you away with our great creativity on all of our assignments.
    4. Designing the eco-friendly cars
    5. Taking the picture of you with that questionable photo on your desk! haha JUST KIDDING
    6. And all of the other times that were memorable.

There were not many dislikes..just that you always yelled at me and you go to fast during the powerpoints, so fast that I just didn't even bother writing down anything. I also wish that there were not cumulative tests at the end of each 6 weeks. I would have done a whole lot better if there was a test every other week or so. Although I am glad that the course wasn't as hard as AP Chemistry(which equaled death), it would probably be better for the students who were planning on taking the AP exam for it to be a little more challenging. Maybe more extensive notes or grading would do the trick!
Other than that your class was golden.

    Lauren Henry!

  34. My favorite part of this class was the homecoming dresses we made.
I did not like the notes they were to fast and I felt like I did not get all the information I needed to take the quiz.

  35. i really liked the fashion show. but it really should have been counted as a grade or something. we put in alot of hard work and my group actually went home and researched different unique things we could use that were recylable. i also didnt like taking the quizzes so often. i often didnt feel like we had covered the material as much as we did the projects. (but i really liked all the projects, they were fun!)
